Javier Bardem Leaves ‘Wall Street’ Sequel

Javier Bardem has left Money Never Sleeps, the upcoming sequel to Wall Street directed by Oliver Stone. Filming was scheduled to start in August for a release in February 2010.
Bardem’s publicist told Forbes the Oscar-winning actor has turned down the role because he has “five or six other offers.” Instead, one of those offers means he’ll appear in Eat, Pray, Love with Julia Roberts about a woman’s globe-trotting discovery of herself. No replacement has been announced yet for Bardem’s character.
He joined the production in June 2009 as a hedge fund manager suspected of murder and other shady business practices. Michael Douglas will still reprise his role as Gordon Gekko, which won him an Oscar for the 1987 original, and Shia LaBeouf is a young broker investigating the hedge fund and dating Gekko’s daughter. Gordon Gekko finishes a prison sentence and returns to the changed financial world in the film. Of course the sequel will reflect the current market and recent corporate criminals like Bernard Madoff.

Javier Bardem And Julia Roberts To ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ Together

He’ll get his chance with the big screen adaptation of novelist Elizabeth Gilbert’s globe-trotting memoir, “Eat, Pray, Love.” Variety reports that he has joined star Julia Roberts in the self-discovery drama.
Roberts will play Gilbert, who decided that the cure for her depression — fed by a recent divorce and rebound romance — was to travel around Italy, Indonesia and India. “Eat” was the result of her global exploration and inner soul-searching… and naturally, she found a little real life romance too. That’s where Bardem comes in, as a fellow named Felipe who Gilbert meets and falls in love with on the final stage of her journey. Also along for the ride is Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins, who will play a Texan that Gilbert meets and befriends while hanging out at an Indian ashram.
Ryan Murphy (”Nip/Tuck”) will direct from his own screenplay. Roberts’ pal and frequent costar Brad Pitt is producing under his Plan B shingle, so the pretty woman will be in friendly hands. The film is set for a 2011 release.

Javier Bardem joins Wall Street 2

No Country for Old Men Oscar-winner to play an evil hedge fund manager opposite Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf in Oliver Stone’s sequel.
Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem made grown men quiver in terror as baddie Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men. Now, he’s been cast as a villain of a quite different (pin)stripe in Oliver Stone’s sequel to his cautionary tale of 80s capitalism, Wall Street.
Deadline Hollywood reports that Bardem will play an evil hedge fund manager in the new film, which will start shooting in August for a February 2010 release date.
Michael Douglas will reprise his Academy Award-winning role as Gordon Gekko. But whereas Gekko in the 1987 original was a ruthless, rule-breaking stockbroker, he is a much-changed character in this followup. Recently released from prison, he spends much of the movie warning the authorities about the impending financial apocalypse while trying to patch up his relationship with his estranged daughter.
As previously reported, Shia LaBeouf is also on board, as a young trader who is engaged to said daughter and ends up taking advice from the reformed Gekko.
Deadline Hollywood reports that, just as with the original, the producers have employed a number of financial insiders to ensure accuracy. The site also suggests the new film will simply be titled Wall Street 2.

Salma and Francois Celebrate Their Second Wedding in Style

Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault happily walked down the aisle again on Saturday at Venice’s opera house Teatro La Fenice. Salma looked gorgeous in a white Balenciaga wedding gown by Nicholas Ghesquiere. Valentina was a flower girl wearing a Bonpoint dress with Francois’s children from his first marriage also participating in the black tie affair. They may have gotten married at a small ceremony on Valentine’s Day but their glamorous second round of nuptials included about 150 of their close family and friends.
They kicked off the weekend with a masked rehearsal dinner on Friday and some of their celebrity guests wore their black and gold masks as they arrived to the wedding by boat on Saturday. Penelope Cruz wore a floor-length blue gown for the ceremony and changed into a black dress for the reception, with Javier Bardem as her date. Stuart Townsend and Charlize Theron also joined in on the festivities with Charlize transforming her dress from long to short halfway through. Lots more familiar faces were in the audience including Ed Norton, Bono, Ashley Judd and Anna Wintour. On Sunday the newlyweds had a farewell brunch after a romantic weekend of celebrating their life as husband and wife.
